Pond Dredging Trash Pump

Jan 04, 2006 · I have no experience in this but i have been wanting to try it also. I talked to one of my bosses and he said to look into a diaphragm (not sure if spelt correctly) pump instead of a trash pump, apparently the larger solids will hurt the impeller in a trash pump.

It is important that only relatively clean water go into the dredge pump so I put the output of the 3 inch pump into a large bucket, the foot valve for the dredge pump goes into the bucket so that it only sucks up clean water.

I do recommend using a suction nozzle with a trash pump. You don’t get as much suction as with a high pressure pump. With a suction nozzle, the distance the water for the dredge is under suction is very short (less than a foot) vs a power jet nozzle may have water under suction for 20 ft or more.
